Saturday nights just got better! 🙌 Youth Night kicked off two weeks ago— with games, worship, and real talk. Community starts here — a space to laugh, share, and grow stronger in the Lord together. 🫶

During the last week of July, we held an incredible Kids Krusade with the theme: The ABCs of Salvation! On Friday, we focused on "A – Admit you have sinned." Forty children attended and had a blast learning a memory verse, playing games, enjoying puppet shows, seeing powerful illustrations, and hearing the impactful story, "He Took My Whipping."

Saturday’s theme was "B – Believe in Jesus," and we welcomed 120 children! They listened to the story of "Johnny and the Prairie Fire," experienced engaging activities, and continued learning about God’s love in a fun and memorable way.

We wrapped up on Sunday with "C – Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved!" The puppets were a highlight for everyone, and the illustration about being restored was a crowd favorite. We ended the Krusade with the touching story of "Barney’s Barrel" and a powerful call to salvation — with many children and adults confessing Jesus as their Lord!

It was an amazing week, and we can’t wait to do it again!

Almost a year ago, Bro. Michael felt that God laid a small English-speaking church that was struggling in his heart. We began attending whenever we were in Moshi and didn't have other preaching engagements. Just in the last few months, we were asked to step into a leadership role. Our first project: Sound boards! If you know about block buildings, they echo. So together, Mike and I designed, purchased, and built the first 6. These sound boards serve a dual purpose, absorbing sound and adding beauty.

~Working for the Kingdom~

Moshi's economy is driven by tourism, so every time we go into town for anything, inevitably someone is trying to sell us trinkets! Michael always replies "I am not a tourist, we live here in Moshi." Some that we see often started recognizing him, and calling him "cowboy" (probably because of the jeans, plaid shirts, and boots)

When the girls came to visit, we took them souvenir shopping, and again the guys downtown were trying to sell things to Michael, he told them, "I don't need anything you have, but I have something you need, Jesus!

This was on a Monday, and he told me that night that he felt he should go back and talk to those men again. So Saturday morning, Michael and Mikey bought a case of cokes and some samosas and began sharing the good news of the Gospel of Jesus with 10 men who showed up!

The following Saturday, Michael and Mikey went back, again with food for their bellies and food for their souls! 12 men this time! After giving the Word, and leading them in a prayer for salvation, he encouraged them to find a church to attend. Some of them said "Where do you go to church? Can we just go with you?" He said, "Sure, I'll be here at 8:30 am be ready!"

The 1st Sunday, 6 men!
The 2nd Sunday, 13 men!
The 3rd Sunday, 10 men!
Some Sunday's we have had more and some less, but this past Sunday, 2 men testified about the change God has made in their lives!

They no longer call Michael "cowboy" now they call him Pastor Mike, not because he has changed, but because God is changing hearts!

Right now we have been filling up the back of our truck and Bro. Jonas' truck to get everyone to church! But soon the rainy season will come and we need to purchase a van or a bus for transporting people!

~Visitors~

Over a year ago, Glenna started telling us that she was coming in the Summer of 2024 and bringing friends.

As the time got closer and I was trying to fill every moment with things to do, she said, "Mom, you're stressing, and it's just my friends so it's just like family! And this is our vacation, so we can just hang out at the house, too."

So I took a deep breath and relaxed and we ended up having a wonderful time together. We stayed pretty busy, took a trip to Massai Land, visited the 2 Children's home, attended Bible study, went to tea, crashed a wedding, and even slept in a couple of days. The girls went on a Safari and took Mikey along for protection😜

The only sad part was it was too short! So, @angiecasey and @simplyy_netty next time..... just come to stay!

I Corinthians 12:28 in action!
We asked the Lord to show us how to build His Kingdom and He answered!

We often visit a couple of Children's Homes here in Moshi, and in all honesty, we have a soft spot for the needs of the orphaned children.

Here is a little bit of history for you, in the fall of 2009, Michael and I, along with our oldest daughter Glenna and 2 young ladies from our home church came to Moshi, Tz, and served in Safe Haven Orphanage. We made so many memories here, and this children's home still holds a special place in our hearts!

So when the call came asking for help to paint the Children's home at Landmark World Mission, we said yes!

The Lord blessed us with 2 paint sprayers in 2022 through Bro Rod Clifton and Bro. Johnny Donaldson. So we loaded up all our paint equipment and got to work!

We made it a family outing for a few days and other days it was Michael, Mikey, Bro. Moses (overseer of the home), Bro. Chacha (a local pastor) and Bro Emanuel (Groundsman at the home) working together.

So about 12 - 5 gallon buckets of paint later, I think it is looking very beautiful.

~The Boma~
While at Namalulu we visited a Massai village. This is the village of 1 family, the Babu of this village just recently passed, but his 10 wives and all of his children and their families live here still. I believe it was 18 inkajijik (huts) surrounded by large kraal (thorn hedge) this is the largest Boma we have seen yet.
Below I will try to give a little explanation of each photo.

1. This is a common mode of transportation here. Often you will see vehicles piled high with items tied on, then people, or animals on top of that. So when Mattias said, "Who is riding up?" Mikey was beyond excited to volunteer!

2. The older Massai do not like their pictures taken, but the children love for you to take their picture and then let them look at it! Also, it is more common for the massai to own their own cell phones and to see a little solar panel with one cord for charging the phone.

3. These markings are made when the child is very young, some say its for identification between tribes, and some say it signifies becoming a hunter/warrior. We see this less in the Massai churches, as some become Christians and they make the choice not to mark their children.

4. As soon as we arrived this group of kids gathered at the truck window, Michael said "Look what they are doing." They were pulling the hair on his arm!

5. Their inkajijik is made of sticks covered with mud and animal dung with a thatched roof. The walls are very smooth and most are divided into 2 or 3 rooms inside. All their cooking is done outside or in a separate hut.

6. Clothing - the traditional wrap consists of 3 pieces of cloth, 2 tied across the body, and 1 around the waist, women are mostly covered unless nursing a child, but small children are often nude from the waist down.

7. Abigael wears traditional Massai clothing when ministering in the Boma, the people seem to really like this!

8. Personal space is not a thing in Tanzania! So these children latched on to Wilma very quickly and stuck by her for the rest of our day!

9. Gathering firewood is an everyday job here, seeing people walking with a pile of brush on their heads is what we've come to expect! Continue in comments

~The Castle~
Our first week back, we were invited to a dinner, where missionaries in this area, come together and fellowship, they said sometimes they have up to 40 people (including children). It happens once a week, at a set time, and whoever is available goes, no pressure.

We went and ended up being the first people there! Finally, one other family came, David & Abigael Raab. Though it was a bit awkward at first, it was definitely a God thing!! Their heart for God and their love for the work of God shown through. They also work in the Massai Land, In the opposite direction of us, and invited us to come with them to "the castle"

The next week we made the 4-hour trip deep into the bush to Namalulu. There is a story behind "the castle" that is too much to tell here, but just for context, it is a water storage tank with a home on top!

From there we traveled to "the farm"
We met Mattias, Zuzana, Ray, and several helpers. This missionary group is from Sweden, Switzerland, Cheklosovakia, and China. They grow beans and corn, to provide food for a school, an orphanage, and to give to the poor.
People from 6 countries, all working and serving to spread the gospel for Jesus Christ!

Remember that gift of helps mentioned in I Corinthians 12:28? This trip presented some opportunities for Michael to help fix a roof and a few other structural things.

Hello from Moshi, Tz!
We often get the question, "How is life there?" And even though pictures usually only showcase the best parts, we thought we could share a little of what it looks like!

Below,I tried to give a little explanation of each photo, but keep watching because over the next few weeks, we will be posting some more specific ministry items that have come our way this summer!

1. We have been blessed with a beautiful place to live, and this screened in porch is a favorite for morning devotions and coffee

2. If ya know us, you know we love ice cream! We found this cute little place just down the street, hat makes a really good chocolate shake, so once in a while we splurge!

3. Just a week after arriving, Michael heard that there was kids' day camp and promptly signed Mikey up. They served breakfast and lunch (Tz style), played soka (soccer), and relay races. He had a lot of fun!

4. Since Wilma had been in the States for the whole last year, we had postponed purchasing a bed for her. So furniture shopping was on the "to do" list. We found this fancy furniture store,and they fabricated her bed and 2 night stands in 1 week! It turned out beautiful.

5. Swimming! The weather here, on hot days, is a lot like a Cali summer, so we took the kids to a resort to cool off.

6. Michael was in the states for 6 weeks, and when we returned the yard looked like a very dry and dusty jungle, so we hired Emanuel to help Michael and Mikey get caught up on the yard work. Emanuel works at Landmark World Missions children's home.

7. Michael is truly a "jack of all trades" when we came back this time we didn't have a specific church to build, so we ask the Lord to show us how to build His Kingdom in Moshi. Within a week of arriving, we had met at least 5 missionaries from 5 different ministries, nd began a ministry of helps! Everything from plumbing to furniture rebuilds, from preaching in new places to praying for the sick. We have been working for the Lord every way we can!

8. Mikey likes to watch #outdoorboys. Someone sent him the link for their Tanzanian trip, thus trying the weird fruit he found growing in our yard!

Progress on the new church in Lostetes! The Lord has been faithful every step of the way. We're building around the existing church so that the congregation can still have a place to gather, they are so looking forward to have a church building!

We picked up supplies and drove up the mountain to deliver them, swipe to the end to see a video, many hands make light work!

Wednesday, September 6th, we traveled to The Tree Church (the village of Moita) and Mama Pastors Church (the village of Laroy)

We got a call from the pastor asking for our help. Their crops did not do well this year. We were thankful to answer the call! We passed out 200 kilo of maze and 200 kilo of beans to total 440 lbs of each!!

On this trip, we were able to travel into the village of Laroy and give their village leader a bag of maze and beans.
We are thankful that the Lord is opening doors for us to be his hands and feet!

This past Sunday we visited a new church where we were welcomed with open arms, felt the spirit of God, and are looking forward to the Lord strengthening this small congregation who is hungry for more of HIM!

A few weeks ago, we sent Wilma home to join her high school classmates on a choir tour for three weeks and to finish out the school year. Since then, we have spent our days enjoying the gorgeous views the rain has brought, working diligently on Mikeys schooling, and completing projects around the property!
•
Due to the weather, we have not been able to make it back up the mountain to visit the Lositete church that is in the building stages. All construction has paused for the time being, and though we are thankful for the rain, we are ready to be out of this season so we can get back on track with the building project!

On Firday, April 20th, Bro. Michael, Bro. Jonas and Mikey headed up to Lositete for the weekend to help around the new church, make arrangements for supplies to be purchased, and then be in service with Bro. Joshua and his congregation on Sunday.

Michael, Jonas, and Mikey took their cots and sleeping bags to sleep in the church, and the women of the church cooked for them.
•
Unfortunately, a storm came in, and their plans had to change. They did not give up and go home, though. Instead, they had church!
•
Wonderful words from the Lord were brought, and then sweet time around the altar was had with lives being touched and changed by the Holy Spirit.

On Sunday, we had the privilege of ministering in two services at Pastor Samsons church in Mwika. We met Pastor Samson over 15 years ago through a different fellowship. He has been a dear friend all these years and has welcomed us into his church with open arms each time we have visited. His son is now the assistant pastor, and their church is thriving! We are excited to see how God will use this church in Mwika for years to come!

Ricardo Verdugo (52) was born in Mexico and raised in Avenal, California. Ricardo met his wife in 6th grade, began dating as Seniors in Highschool and married when they were 20 years old. Ricardo and his wife have been married 32 years. They have 2 children and 7 grandchildren.

Ricardo began attending Avenal Assembly 12 years ago. Ricardo is a faithful worker at Avenal Assembly and is always willing to lend a helping hand when called upon. Ricardo retired from working for the State of California after 28 years.

Ricardo joined the ARC team as a member of Avenal Assembly and enjoyed visiting the completed churches along with the Children's Homes.

Douglas Spencer Jr. (age 43) was born and raised in Riverdale. Doug married his wife Amber in 2003. Doug and Amber have 3 children. In 2004, Doug's father began pastoring Avenal Assembly of God. Over the years Doug has had many leadership roles while helping his father in the ministry.

Currently Doug is the Associate Pastor, the Sunday School Superintendent and leader of Royal Rangers at Avenal Asembly. Doug pursues a full time career as a carpenter for the State of California.

Doug joined the ARC team as a member of Avenal Assembly of God because of their church's large part is raising the funds for the Tree Church project. We are excited Doug had the opportunity to join us and see the completed Tree Church.

Shannon Norris (46) married her husband Jim in 2003. In 2006 Jim and Shannon made their way to Riverdale where they have raised their 4 children.

Shannon worked in her church's school for over 10 years and now is a faithful worker at her church's thrift store, along with being a stay at home mother and raising her children for the Lord.
•
Shannon has enjoyed working with the ARC team to paint the two Maasai churches and is ready to return with the ARC team in the future!

Annette (Netty) Moreno (22) was born and raised in California. Netty's love for music led her to learn to play 3 instruments. Netty is also fluent in ASL and excited to see where this knowledge can be used in the Ministry.

In 2020 Netty began school at Ozark Bible Institute where she has ministered at Resoration Center and has been a member of the Africa Prayer Band. Netty has a burden for the Country of Africa and desires God's will in where he leads her in her Missions work.
•
Having Netty join the ARC team on her first Missions trip has been wonderful. We are excited to see where her heart for Missions takes her.

Hanah Lloyd (20) was raised in Port au Prince Haiti. Hannah's family runs 'Missions in Haiti' where they have a Children's home, a church, a Haitian Christian school and an English Christian school. 🇭🇹

In 2020 Hanah began attending Ozark Bible Institute. Hanah will graduate in 2024 with a Bachelors in Biblical Literature and a Minor in Missions.

Hannah's heart for Mission's and children's ministry shines through no matter what Country she is in. It has been a privilege to have her join the ARC team.

Janeal McMillan (21) is the second daughter of Michael and Jana the leaders of the ARC team.
Janeal is engaged to Roy Bohannan and will be married in October.
•
Janeal's talents are in her ability to create, decorate, and work with children. Janeal's calling is to work at the Christian School at her church. She truly loves teaching.
•
Janeal has enjoyed seeing the places and meeting all the people her father has talked about her whole life.

Wilma McMillan (16) is the 3rd daughter of Michael and Jana the leaders of the ARC team.
•
Wilma is a Senior in Highschool, enjoys playing volleyball, being outside, and working with her animals.
•
Wilma's fun personality has brought lots of laughs for the ARC team!

Michael (Mikey) McMillan Jr. (11) is the son of Michael and Jana, the leaders of the ARC team.
•
Mikey is in 6th grade and enjoys playing flag football with his classmates, swimming, and being a typical eleven year old.
•
Mikey has jumped right in playing with the kids, painting, and learning to eat new African foods!

Mark Igo (49) was born in Oklahoma, lived in Alabama, and moved to California in 2017.
•
In Alabama, Mark worked at a HP call center. He now works as a Fleet Manager for Jon Casey Construction.
•
Mark has been a great help on this trip and has not let a moment go by that he did not capture with one of his many cameras!

The ARC team has had a successful week! Both churches have been painted and we are ready for dedications on Sunday.
God is Faithful.

Inspite of the strong winds that blew the roof and parts of the walls down and the fact that it is rainy season here which caused construction to stop, the walls are rebuilt and the trusses are replaced!

We have to purchase a few extra pices of tin and pay for a week or two of extra work days, so this church will cost us a little more than the first, but all in all things are going well and the building will be done in about a month.

🎼 and the walls came tumbling down...

Last week, we got a call from our friend who is looking over the construction process of the Kikovu church that a strong wind came through and blew down the roof of the church building.
The walls had been completed with doors and windows, and the trusses and tin were placed; all that was left was to brick the gable ends of the church. When the wind came through, it funneled upward, taking the tin and trusses with it!
•
Though this is a setback, we are not discouraged! The contractor assures us that he will have the building ready in a month and that not too many replacement supplies will have to be bought. He hopes to re-use the trusses, tin, and most of the block.
•
Please keep the pastor, congregation, and contractor in your prayers; they are encouraged knowing that if the devil is fighting, it only means that God is going to do something greater!

We had our last 3 services this past week!
We traveled from service in North Carolina with Bro. & Sis. Ambrose and Lighthouse Tabernacle on Wednesday to Sherman Texas to be in church with Bro. & Sis. Adams on Sunday morning, and then we ended our last weekend of ministry with Bro. & Sis. Snow in Denton, Texas, on Sunday night. We are excited about what God has done on this trip and are ready for what he has in store for us next.
